Nigerian NGO set to publish the stories of older gay/queer men in Nigeria
The Initiative for Equal Rights (TIERs), a leading human rights NGO in Nigeria is currently working on a project which will document the life histories and experiences of queer men in Nigeria.
The NGO is currently looking to capture the life stories of men from a wide range of ages and backgrounds in Nigeria who identity as gay, bisexual and/or transgender. The organizers have a particular interest in stories from older men (55+). The stories will be gathered into an anthology and published by a leading global publisher.

As stated by the NGO in their open call, the book when published, “will deepen the global perspective on the queer experience in Africa, and Nigeria specifically – beyond the ‘doom and gloom’ of international headlines”
They also stated that part of the many reasons why they have decided to carry out the project is “to document the lives of queer men in Nigeria and to uncover the voices of a group of people often excluded from the accepted narrative of Nigerian history and society” with the hopes that it increases “the presence of queer voices will reduce stigma and discrimination, by creating broader awareness through human stories”

Good, the more people read about gay men’s life, with all the mistreatment and struggles and know they all just want peace, love, happiness and to live the life they were born to me without discrimination, stigmatization, and only want the same equal rights as all others. In all my reading and research, homosexual people are loving, kind, respectful of others, and don’t start wars or go on macho man power hungry men who are dictators and create so much misery and destruction to mankind… The more those who are in fear of gay people realize this, then hopefully they can put aside religion and accept all people. How does denying others equal rights affect the religion of others in a good way ?
