Just In: Police arrest over 40 alleged homosexuals in Lagos, Nigeria
Over 40 young men have been reportedly arrested at a hotel in Egbeda area in Lagos on the accusation that they are homosexuals.
NoStringsNG received a report earlier today from a concerned young man who said that the incident happened last night at Kelly Ann Hotels at Egbeda in the Lagos area.
It was reported that the police raided the hotel in the middle of the night and arrested over 40 young men who were at a party, while 2 managed to escape. The police made the arrest on the accusation that they are all homosexuals.
The young men were at first taken to Bonny Camp at Victoria Island, which is a military base in the Lagos area, but was later transferred to Idimu police station, where some people are currently negotiating for their release.
A young man, who spoke to NoStringsNG on the phone, confirmed the authenticity of the report.
He said; “We are at the Idimu police station right now, and everything will be fine”
NoStringsNG will follow up and provide update on the incident as well as monitor the progress of the case.
This is absolutely not new, as the Nigeria police have always profited from cases involving suspected LGBTI persons, where they extort and go as far as blackmailing their victims.

Clearly, the rights of the young men have been violated, as according to chapter IV of the Nigerian constitution, every individual has the right to freely express themselves and associate. This is guaranteed under the ‘Rights to Freedom of Assembly and Association’.
