Media Campaign On How Homophobia Promotes The Widespread of HIV/AIDS amongst LGBT people In Nigeria
NoStrings NG, a media platform in Nigeria which seeks to promote and project the voices of LGBTIQ persons in Nigeria through media advocacy and sensitization, will be organizing a media project tagged “How Homophobia Promotes The Widespread of HIV/AIDS amongst LGBT people”
We will be talking with health professionals representing different LGBT led and friendly organizations in Nigeria, and also LGBT individuals living with the virus on the NoStrings podcast.
We strongly believe that a leading factor that has led to the widespread of the disease amongst LGBT people is the constant promotion of homophobic behaviors directed toward them. Discrimination is also a key factor in this very sad resulting outcome.
Most LGBT people live in fear and isolation, dealing with internalized homophobia, depression, guilt and shame, and are busy trying to deal with all these things with less time to focus on their health, and caring less about getting tested and staying healthy.
They fear exposure, as they may not freely be able to discuss issues concerning their health in general for fear of discrimination.
With this campaign, we will take advantage of different social media platforms, and promote awareness messages, targeting a generic audience.
We will also launch talks with health experts skilled in HIV/AIDS programmes, and LGBT people living with the virus. They will expose to us about their different experiences with working with infected persons, how the virus actually spreads, and their personal stories living with the virus. We will also deal with the different myths and misconceptions that people nurture about HIV/AIDS and the LGBT community.
Doing this will provide an in depth understanding on why everyone should be concerned, and how homophobia is contributing to the widespread of the disease amongst LGBT people.
We are hoping to use facebook as a starting point to promote the contents that we will be producing for the campaign. We will create banners, record podcast episodes, and produce articles for this project. And we will be paying facebook to distribute these materials on its platform to a generic audience.
We are seeking for an official sponsor, and we will be particularly excited if ordinary individuals can reach us to share how they can support the project.
We currently reach over 4,000 persons every week, and we are hoping to reach more with this campaign if the needed support is acquired.

What straight people do not understand in all African countries and even in Russia, is that homosexuality will never be abolished. It is part of mankind’s nature of a natural population control. Yes it is a behavior that one can choose to practice or remain celibate. However, there is an uncontrollable urge to come out and be who one has turn out to be in life. As a family they should embrace it as long as the individual is not intentionally out to harm other’s with it. Gay people did not asked to be born and frankly no one has.
Therefore we should treat each other with human kindness, understanding, tolerance and prudence. Going against the baby that one loved when born and is now a grown creature is an act of hate and malicious discrimination. Of course if a country is going to create laws against such creatures in order to stop or slow down an STD disease and by the same means prevent anyone from associating with them, including medical advocates and teachers to indoctrinate and teach how to protect oneself against the disease, well that is a very stupid move as it is going increase the disease.
Put your religious fervor morality away and lets look at practicality. God’s spirituality is not of religion nor of hatred. Hated only breeds more hatred towards a never ending contentious engagement of civil rivalry. As Whoopi Goldberg said “We have gone through this here in the USA and we do not put up with it any longer” Let’s help the rest of the world become more understanding and compassionate.
